Methamphetamine Remediation

The manufacture of illicit drugs  such as methamphetamine is a growing issue in many parts of the country. Clandestine drug labs are often located in residences and produce harmful chemicals during the manufacturing process. Even smoking leaves behind chemical residue on surfaces and if accidentally ingested, can severely impact one’s health. Our technicians are fully trained to clean methamphetamine contaminated properties.

Manufacturing methamphetamine involves a cooking process. Most clandestine drug labs are found in residential homes. The mixtures of dangerous chemicals evaporate and permeate all porous and non-porous surfaces including kitchen benches, walls, ceilings, books, pillows, toys and other contents items. The harmful chemicals contaminate the property and without correct decontamination may remain indefinitely.

Understanding the correct meth lab clean up procedures, guided by the Government’s meth clean-up laws is critical for this complex chemical remediation process. A thorough property assessment is carried out to assist in its identification. Methamphetamine contamination is typically invisible and exposure to its residue can cause serious health issues.

The Process

The first step is to determine if the property is contaminated by conducting initial testing. Our Project Managers take swab samples from multiple areas of the property. These samples are then sent to a specialty lab and results determine if the property is contaminated or not.

If contaminated, we remove exposed soft furnishings including carpets, curtains, lounge suites, mattresses and linen. We then treat or remove light fittings, plumbing and air conditioning. In extreme circumstances, we may also be required to strip out walls, ceilings and cabinetry. Each property is assessed on a case by case basis.

Juvenaire uses specialist cleaning procedures, chemicals and machines to neutralise the methamphetamine contaminated property. We use the latest chemicals and procedures to bring the property back to pre-loss condition. Once safe levels are reached, a clearance certificate is issued and the property is deemed safe for occupants.
