Why Water Damage Must Be Treated as a Priority

When water enters a property, the damage does not stop once the leak is contained. Moisture continues to spread through carpet, underlay, plasterboard, insulation, timber, cabinetry and concealed building cavities—often causing significant secondary damage within hours.

Under the principles of AS-IICRC S500:2025 – Standard for Professional Water Damage Restoration, every water-loss event should be assessed according to the source of the water, the level of contamination, the materials affected and the surrounding environmental conditions.

The first 24 hours are critical.

Within just a few hours, moisture can penetrate porous materials and spread beneath flooring or behind walls. Plasterboard may begin to soften, timber can swell or cup, particleboard and MDF may expand, and laminate finishes can start lifting.

Between 24 and 72 hours, the risk increases significantly. Moisture may spread into adjoining rooms and concealed cavities, while staining, delamination, corrosion, odours and microbial growth become more likely.

After several days, flooring may buckle, plasterboard may sag, cabinetry can become permanently swollen and visible mould may begin to develop. Materials that could initially have been restored may instead require removal and replacement.

This is why Juvenaire prioritises water-damage claims and provides a same-day emergency response service. (excluding event periods)

Our experienced restoration team acts quickly to:

  • Identify the source and extent of the water damage
  • Map moisture within visible and concealed building materials
  • Extract standing water
  • Reduce further moisture absorption
  • Install professional drying and dehumidification equipment
  • Protect unaffected areas
  • Develop a clear restoration plan
  • Minimise demolition, repairs and replacement costs

By responding quickly, Juvenaire can help reduce secondary damage, preserve more of the original building materials and shorten the overall restoration period.

Our goal is simple: to return customers to a safe and comfortable home as quickly as possible, with minimal building damage, lower repair costs and the least possible disruption to their lives.

Water from sewage, flooding or other contaminated sources requires immediate professional assessment, containment and remediation. Uncontrolled fans or air movement should not be used until the water source and contamination risks have been properly assessed. Juvenaire—acting quickly to protect properties, control costs and help customers get back on their feet sooner.
