The floods in Townsville 2019 has caused mass displacement of people from their homes. The rains came as a blessing after a prolonged drought in the region however, the elation was short-lived when it poured for days on end. The recorded rainfall had even exceed a meter in some parts of the North QLD region which caused widespread flooding where dams, rivers, creeks and streams overflowed.
Juvenaire is currently providing its disaster recovery services to assist in the restoration of homes up North. As soon as the flood waters had receded, we had received a great number of claims pouring through our claims department. As we write this article, we have had approximately 500 claims to process and counting.
As soon as the roads had cleared, the director Steve Thornton-Smith and General Manager, Peter Cooper made their way to Townsville to assess the damage and devise the most efficient way to respond to the disaster recovery process. After almost three decades in the restoration industry, Juvenaire is well equipped with plans in place to tackle any disaster situation.
Once given the all clear, our warehouse team had organised specialist restoration equipment to be transported to Townsville (thanks to our sister company Juvenate). Technicians have been temporarily housed in Townsville and will continue working for the next few months with the sheer number of affected properties in the region.
Following a few meetings, restoration processes had begun on affected homes by Project Managers and trained technicians. They have been working tirelessly to ensure that families are able to return to their homes as soon as possible. We understand that due to such unforeseen events, many people have been left without a home and have had to set up temporary accommodation as restoration works continue.
